Inter Miami takes a 1-0 lead in the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs with a 2-1 win over Atlanta United.
In what was a tough match, thanks to Brad Guzan’s goalkeeping masterclass, Miami was kept to just two goals on the night.
Despite the positive result, unfortunately, the excitement after the win was sapped by the heartbreaking knee injury to Ian Fray.
The youngster recently returned from his third consecutive knee injury in the summer.
Though we don’t have confirmation of the injury, based on the eye test, it looks like another lower leg problem.
Switching gears to the next match, Miami has the opportunity to sweep the Five Stripes next week Saturday away at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Here are Three Observations from Miami’s win over Atlanta.
1.) Miami Probably Should’ve Had More than Two Goals
Looking at the stats sheet, Miami accumulated an xG of 3.12 during the match.
Due to Brad Guzan making multiple saves, the Herons were held to just two goals on the night.
Messi had nine shots, with at least three of them being blocked. Hopefully, the Herons will be a bit more clinical when they face Atlanta again in a week.
2.) Jordi Alba Had Himself a Game
It’s often been talked about how Jordi Alba is probably Miami’s third-best attacking player, behind Messi and Luis Suárez.
Though the Spaniard is just a left-back, his attacking output has been crucial to Miami throughout the season.
Against Atlanta, the ex-Barcelona man showed his offensive prowess once again, creating three chances, and grabbing the game-winning goal.
The 35-year-old was awarded Man of the Match for his efforts.

:(
Thoughts on the match? Bit of a sad one after Fray’s injury.
Still fantastic win. And the first for inter Miami in the playoffs. Exciting!
Agree with Ash, Chelo was gassed. Bummer for Fray, life isn't fair at times. CB and RB depth is a concern.
