Inter Miami has added another trophy to their cabinet, clinching the 2024 Supporter’s Shield with a tough 3-2 win over the Columbus Crew.
The game, wrought with nerves from fans, and question marks surrounding the team, was an MLS classic.
End-to-end action saw five goals scored, with Miami ultimately becoming the victors.
The Crew, led brilliantly by Wilfried Nancy, were tough competition, using every bit of their bench and tactical flexibility to push for the equalizer in the end.
Inevitably, Miami had the grit, determination, and quality to push themselves over the finish line.
Here are Three Observations From Inter Miami’s Supporter’s Shield win vs. Columbus.
1.) Inter Miami Win Second Trophy in Club History

In a historic 2024 season, Inter Miami has added another piece of silverware to its collection.
Although the team made it difficult for themselves, drawing three straight games, they finally got it done against a well-coached Columbus Crew side.
Miami is just two wins away from breaking the MLS single-season points record (73).
2.) Back Five Did The Thing!
In an article I wrote after Miami’s 1-1 draw against Charlotte, I suggested that Tata Martino and his coaching staff switch to a back five to absolve Messi from defensive responsibilities so he can go off and do Messi things:
Luckily, Miami learned their lesson and came out in a 5-3-2.
This gave Miami the numbers to match up well against the Crew’s 3-4-2-1, defensively, all the while having enough numbers going forward to make an impact offensively.
Though the match wasn’t as smooth sailing as the Herons wanted it to be (two penalty calls, and conceding twice), thanks to Messi and Suárez, and heroics from Drake Callender, the men in pink earned all three points.

Yeah, I think this one will be nominated for Goal of The Week again.
How are you guys feeling after that one? Let me know in the comments!
What a season. Two trophies in one year is an amazing feat. It’s been an incredible season and more to come.
Good game. Great pass from Jordi to Leo. The two handballs in the penalty box by Academy graduates should not have happened. Great save by Callender.
