Inter Miami continued their MLS campaign with a 0-0 road draw against the Chicago Fire last Saturday.
The game was open-ended for both sides, with the Fire and Miami creating plenty of chances but failing to find the back of the net.
A strong performance from Oscar Ustari, who — undoubtedly — saved a point for Miami, as the Fire’s incessant attacks in the final third were difficult for the Herons to handle as the game clock ticked to 90 minutes.
Here are *late* Player Ratings from Miami’s draw vs. the Fire.
🧤 Oscar Ustari - 9: Man of the match performance from him! Kept a clean sheet.
Defense:
🐥 Noah Allen - 7.3: No one in the backline covered themselves in glory this match, but Allen did grow into the game once he switched to center back.
🦅 Maxi Falcon - 7.2: Not his best match, but alongside his fellow defenders, kept a clean sheet.
🦒 Tomas Avilés - 7.5: A good game by high standards. Didn’t get a yellow card and stymied the Fire’s attack well.
🧔♂️ Gonzalo Lujan - 7: Great defensively, didn’t get much going offensively.
Midfield:
💣 Telasco Segovia - 7.1: Largely anonymous for most of the match. Do think Mascherano needs to play him a bit more centrally.
🐞 Federico Redondo - 7.4: Had several good tackles and was alert through the middle of the field. Ended the game with seven recoveries. Solid from him.
🧮 Sergio Busquets - 7.6: Like Redondo, had a solid game. Finished the game with 10 recoveries, five passes into the final third, and won 60% of his tackles.
💪 Benjamin Cremaschi - 7.1: I see IMCF giving him some flak, but Cremaschi had another decent game. Was active, tried to make things happen, and has an endless engine. Easy to see why Mascherano plays him.
Attack:
🔫 Luis Suárez - 6.9: Not his day! But he did nearly score the winner at the end, but it was called offside.
🐐 Lionel Messi - 8.3: Along with Ustari, a man-of-the-match performance. Made things happen, but was just short of the goal.
Substitutes:
💨 Jordi Alba - 8.4: It’s very noticeable when he’s not on the field
🧉Tadeo Allende - 8.2: His pace and physicality are traits Miami needs on the field at all times.
🍝 Yannick Bright - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
Coaching:
🔢 Javier Mascherano - 7: I do think he should try some different personnel on the wings. Maybe try Segovia through the middle, start players like Robert Taylor or Fafa Picault. Or maybe even include new signing Baltasar Rodriguez, who’s much more attack-minded as a midfielder.
Thoughts on the match? How do you think Miami will do against Columbus this weekend?
Also, my apologies for these late Player Ratings! I’ve been busy (a good busy) with my internship and couldn’t get around to it until today!
The next two games should be interesting. Mascherano should play his best players against Columbus and Vancouver. Against Dallas he should play everybody from the bench. Save the best players for the second game against Vancouver. Dallas game is too close to the Vancouver games and does not matter, the bench might be able to win it anyway.
