Inter Miami continued its MLS regular season campaign with a 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Even without Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Luis Suárez, the Herons were remarkably potent in attack. They pushed forward, defended with surprising discipline, and played as a unit.
Looking back at the result, it was a wise move for Tata Martino and his coaching staff to rest the trio.
As the Herons look forward to their match against Atlanta this Wednesday, a huge three points vs. a Western Conference opponent was needed.
Here are Player Ratings From Inter Miami’s win vs. the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Goalkeeping, Defense:
🧤 Drake Callendar - 7.8: Had plenty to do this game! Came up clutch towards the end of the match. His command of the box and high claims stymied most of Vancouver’s attack.
💨 Jordi Alba - 7.2: Decent game from the Spaniard. With Messi, Suarez, and Busquets unavailable, he was the main ‘Barca Boy’ carrying the torch.
🏋️ Serhiy Kryvtsov - 7.9: A well-defended match from the Ukraine international. With Nico Freire out for the season, Kryvtsov was the natural replacement. Against Vancouver, he showed he can be a capable stop-gap until a certain Real Madrid defender decides to join the team…
🦌 Tomas Avilés - 7: I don’t know what to say, but I love his mastery of the dark arts, haha.
🎻 Marcelo Weigandt - 6.8: Quiet game from ‘Chelo', but he defended well during the dying seconds of the game.
Midfield:
💪 Benjamin Cremaschi - 7: Great game from Cremaschi! Though he was taken out a tad earlier than expected, he had multiple progressive passes that unlocked Vancouver’s defense.
☀️ Yannick Bright - 6.6: Did well in place of Busquets. Didn’t have the quickest feet, but covered tons of ground.
🥨 Julian Gressel - 6.5: Frustrating night from the German-American. But, he did have several solid cross-field switches of play that led to goal-scoring opportunities.
Attack:
💉 Matias Rojas - 6.7: Not his best night. Was flat-footed and overly ambitious at times.
🛎️ Leonardo Campana - 8.5: Led the line well for Miami in Suarez’s absence. Looked sharp and clinical in the final third. Additionally, his hold-up play was excellent.
🪽 Robert Taylor - 9: Best attacking player on the pitch alongside Campana. Ended the night with a goal and an assist. How’s that for commitment? Tata also called him the “most important player [in the match.]”
Substitutes:
🐞 Federico Redondo - 6.7: Welcome back, Fede!
💈 David Ruiz - 6.5: Had a few wonky passes, but his hustle toward the end of the match helped Miami gain three points.
🐥 Noah Allen - N/A: Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
🦁 (#73) Leo Afonso - N/A: Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating.
Coaching:
🔢 Tata Martino - 7.6: Pretty great night for Tata considering the circumstances. The team defended well, attacked as a unit and (besides the penalty call) nearly kept a clean sheet. Should bode well for the team as they take on Atlanta next Wednesday.

Great to see Taylor and Campana shine! They’ll be crucial over the next two months or so….
I actually think Yannick Bright was brilliant today considering the circumstances. Nobody can the Busquets role, but Bright was solid defensively, made some critical clearances and blocks toward the end of the match, and he wasn't too bad controlling the ball and passing. Again, he is not Busquets, but nobody is. He did pretty well considering he barely had any minutes and lacks rhythm
