Inter Miami gets it done in Chester, Pennsylvania with a 2-1 win over the Union.
Arguably one of Miami’s ugliest games of the year, with two red cards shown to David Ruiz and Tomas Avilés, the Herons persisted and fought for all three points.
The match started slow, with the men in pink struggling to progress the ball forward. Miami’s lackadaisical demeanor cost them an early goal, conceding three minutes into the match.
Eventually, the Herons managed to mount a successful comeback, scoring in the 47th and 97th minute thanks to goals from Julian Gressel and Leo Afonso.
The biggest issue now for Miami is attempting to field a starting eleven next Wednesday vs. the Columbus Crew.
Here are Player Ratings from Inter Miami’s win vs. the Union.
Goalkeeping, Defense:
🧤 Drake Callendar - 8: Came up with a massive save late into the match that kept Miami in the game.
💨 Jordi Alba - 7.5: Had a solid match. Was, essentially, Miami’s attacking catalyst on the left flank.
🏋️ Serhiy Kryvtsov - 7.2: Played well and had several good stops to stymie the Union’s attack.
🦌 Tomas Avilés - 6.5: Brother, the persistent yellow cards are actively hurting the team, now.
🎻 Marcelo Weigandt - 7: ‘Meh’, game from ‘Chelo’. Got caught too far up the pitch at times and left Miami’s backline vulnerable to counter attacks.
Midfield:
💪 Benjamin Cremaschi - 8: Mega game from the youngster. Was active in attack and had the lungs to track back defensively.
🧮 Sergio Busquets - 7.6: Did typical Busquets things.
💈 David Ruiz - 6: Like, Avilés, the cards are a detriment to the team.
Attack:
🥨 Julian Gressel - 8.4: Ahhhh, he scored! Congrats!
🛎️ Leonardo Campana - 7.8: Led the line well; unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet.
🪽 Robert Taylor - 6.8: Not his most impactful match, but it’s always a pleasure to see RT in an Inter Miami kit.
Substitutes:
☀️ Yannick Bright - 8: Was integral in helping Miami push for the late winner. Bravo.
⛵ Ryan Sailor - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
🐥 Noah Allen - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
🍝 Franco Negri - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
🦁 Leo Afonso - 9: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating, but…he scored the winner and had a cold celebration, so I’m giving him one, haha.
Coaching:
🔢 Tata Martino - 8: Got the subs spot on even though the team was down two players.

Aggressively waving my "World's #1 Julian Gressel Fan" flag.
There were way too many negatives from this match but honestly I don't care. We stole the 3 points. This was a heist. Still scratching as to how we did it and actually survived and then won. Between the international duty, card suspensions, and injuries, Tata Martino might be asking for some volunteers from the fans to suit up for the midweek match. It could get ugly against the crew, but then again, maybe we go for back to back heists
