Inter Miami continued their MLS regular season campaign with a 3-2 comeback win vs. CF Montreal.
In what appears to be a recurring theme in Miami matches, the Herons started slow, conceding two goals within 12 minutes.
Fortunately, when there’s that much attacking talent on the field at once for the men in pink, they’ll inevitably find their way back into games.
Goals from Matias Rojas, Luis Suárez, and Benjamin Cremaschi sealed all three points for the Herons as they extended their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference.
Here are Player Ratings from Miami’s win over CF Montreal.
Goalkeeping, Defense:
🧤 Drake Callendar - 7: Didn’t have much to do, but ended the match with four saves, which helped Miami gain three points.
🍝 Franco Negri - 7.6: Good game from the left-back. Looked visibly tired towards the end, but put in a good defensive shift.
🐻 Nicolás Freire - 7.7: Another great game from Nico. It’s evident that Miami’s preferred center-back pairing would be the 30-year-old alongside Tomas Aviles.
🏋️ Serhiy Kryvtsov - 6.7: With his injury troubles, I don’t think Miami can rely on the Ukrainian anymore for depth.
🎻 Marcelo Weigandt - 7.8: Wasn’t nearly as attack-minded in this match, but held down the right-hand side defensively, more so in the second half.
Midfield:
💪 Benjamin Cremaschi - 7.2: Looked sluggish in the first half, but grew into the game. Nice hustle on Miami's third goal, too.
🧮 Sergio Busquets - 8: One of his better matches of the season. Looked spry and mobile, which significantly helped Miami’s chances.
🥨 Julian Gressel - 6.7: An atypical game for the German-American who ran his legs off. Couldn’t quite get into the flow of the match, but his hustle was appreciated on the defensive end.
Attack:
🐐 Lionel Messi - 7.3: It was a quiet game tonight for Messi, but he still managed to make an impact in the 18-yard box, ending the night with one chance created, three total shots, and six passes into the final third.
🔫 Luis Suárez - 7.5: At 37 years old, Suarez is, once again, joint top scorer in MLS now tied with DC United’s Christian Benteke.
💉 Matias Rojas - 8.5: Another phenomenal game from the Paraguayan. He made himself known in attack, notching a goal and assist as Miami fought back for the lead.
Substitutes:
🪽 Robert Taylor - 6.5: Was lively and put Montreal’s backline in a difficult spot with his speed in the second half.
💈 David Ruiz - 6: Wasn’t particularly effective in the middle of the field once he came on.
⛵ Ryan Sailor - 7: Did a good job winning his aerial duels in the last dying seconds of the match.
🛎️ Leonardo Campana - N/A: Did not play long enough to warrant a rating.
Coaching:
🔢 Tata Martino - 7: Admitted he got some tactical set-ups wrong during the match in his post-game conference, but as the game went and, after some slight tweaks on the field, the Herons eventually figured out how to crack the code.

Is it part of the MLS rules that we need to spot our opponents a goal or two each match before we actually start playing? This is ridiculous, we can't keep doing this, and it is definitely not helping my stress levels.
Glad Messi is ok and it wasn't a serious injury. That 2-minute rule should be adjusted at the referee's discretion to allow the player to come back immediately if he thinks it was a legitimate injury. Otherwise, we start rewarding and encouraging serious tackles by the opponents.
Really glad Messi is okay. Tough win but a win is a win and puts us in a good place before Copa America. The important thing is that we don’t let being down ruin us and we come back and win the game.
