What a way to bounce back after a loss, eh?
After their 6-1 thrashing against FC Cincinnati, Inter Miami returned to the win column with a 3-1 victory over Toronto FC.
Like most Miami matches without Messi, the squad started slow, with Toronto dictating the offensive tempo. With Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernadeschi pulling the strings for the Reds, Miami had difficulty getting on the ball.
Despite the lopsided ball possession, it took a singular moment of magic from Federico Redondo to unlock Toronto’s stingy defense.
From that point on, the men in pink found an extra gear, with Redondo and Gomez connecting on two of the three goals tonight.
With Messi out for at least a month, Miami not only needed a win but goal contributions from other players.
Tata Martino got that and then some from his roster.
Here are Player Ratings from Miami’s win over Toronto FC.
Goalkeeping, Defense:
🧤 Drake Callender - 8.5: Goalkeeping masterclass from Drake tonight. Kept Miami in the match with several saves. Congrats on reaching 100 appearances!
💨 Jordi Alba - 7.6: Relatively quiet tonight, but his defensive contributions were a big part of why Miami was able to gain three points.
🏋️ Serhiy Kryvtsov - 6: Shame about the injury. If reports from Argentina are anything to go by, Miami is on the cusp of acquiring center-back Hector David Martinez from River Plate on loan. That should soften the blow of Kryvtsov’s knock.
🦌 Tomas Avilés - 8: Great game from the young defender. Did well to stymie Toronto’s attack.
🍳 Ian Fray - 9: Phenomenal match from him. Went the full 90. Happy to see after his serious injury.
Midfield:
🐞 Federico Redondo - 10: Man of the Match performance. 2G/1A on the night.
☀️ Yannick Bright - 7.9: Solid outing for the Italian. Did well to disrupt Toronto’s fluid midfield.
✌️ Diego Gómez - 9.8: He and Redondo were on a mission. Combined well with his fellow South American. Will leave for the Olympics after the match.
Attack:
🥨 Julian Gressel - 8.8: Another lovely assist from the German-American. Continuing to show the masses why Miami brought him to the club. Up to nine assists on the year.
🛎️ Leonardo Campana - 6.6: Not his best game. Appreciate the haircut, though.
💉 Matias Rojas - 6: Didn’t look comfortable in midfield, struggled to find the game.
Substitutes:
🐥 Noah Allen - 7.5: Did extraordinarily well at the back when Kryvtsov went down. Was agile and kept the ball moving well.
🔫 Luis Suárez - 7: Had a couple of delightful passes that led to goal-scoring opportunities.
🪽 Robert Taylor - 7.3: Looked great on the left-hand side when he came on. Probably should’ve had a goal.
💈 David Ruiz - 6.5: Did well to prevent Toronto from mounting a comeback.
🦁 Leo Afonso - 6.3: Stretched the pitch well with his pace when subbed on.
Coaching:
🔢 Tata Martino - 8.5: Another well-coached game from Tata. Got the best out of his young players and did well to motivate the team after the rather humiliating loss against Cincinnati.
