Inter Miami continues to prove the skeptics wrong with yet another win on the road.
The Herons managed to, once again, sneak three points away from home, winning 2-1 against a tough Charlotte FC side.
Like most Miami matches without Messi and Suarez, the men in pink were slow to grow into the game. Early in the first 45, Miami struggled to retain possession, opting to sit in a compact mid-block to stymie Charlotte on the counter.
This worked for some time, with Miami netting the first goal in the 30th minute. However, the hosts managed to grab one back just before half-time through a scintillating counter.
It appears to be a recurring theme throughout Miami’s summer schedule, where the team plays poorly yet scraps their way to victory.
This time, it was Julian Gressel and Benjamin Cremaschi to the rescue, with the duo connecting on a brilliant passage of play that put Miami up 2-1 in the last minutes of the match.
It wasn’t pretty, but these guys just don’t quit, do they?
Here are Player Ratings from Miami’s win vs. Charlotte.
Goalkeeping, Defense:
🧤 Drake Callender - 8: Another great game from Drake. Came up with several big saves to keep Miami in the game.
💨 Jordi Alba - 8.4: Solid game from the ex-Spain international. Was active in attack and played a key role in Miami's first goal.
🏋️ Serhiy Kryvtsov - 6.7: Not the best game from him, was likely pulled at half-time for a tactical switch.
🦌 Tomas Avilés - 7: Welcome back! Got another yellow card on his return, but it is a day ending in ‘Y’ is it not?
🎻 Marcelo Weigandt - 7.3: Wasn’t as impactful as Alba, but had numerous good runs forward.
Midfield:
💪 Benjamin Cremaschi - 8.7: Got the game-winner and his hair looked flawless while doing so.
🧮 Sergio Busquets - 8.5: If Miami isn’t able to find an affordable center-back to replace the injured Nico Freire, Busquets may have a legitimate shot at staying back there permanently.
✌️ Diego Gómez - 7.5: Was his usually rumblin’, tumblin’ self. Looked better in the buildup portions of the match, however!
Attack:
🪽 Robert Taylor - 6.5: Truly didn’t make an impact on the match when he was on, besides the goal, but his technical ability got Miami out of some tight spots.
🛎️ Leonardo Campana - 7.7: Led the line well, should’ve had a goal.
🥨 Julian Gressel - 8.6: Showing his value to the team when he has matches like that. Was crucial in getting the game-winner.
Substitutes
☀️ Yannick Bright - 7.5: Besides the yellow, he was an excellent substitute that helped break up Charlotte’s counterattacks.
🦁 Leo Afonso - 6.5: Ran his legs off and did his defensive duty well.
💈 David Ruiz - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
🍳 Ian Fray - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
Coaching:
🔢 Tata Martino - 8: Really liked his personnel switch at half-time. Bringing on Bright and switching Busquets to center-back gave Miami some legs in midfield while allowing Busquets to dictate tempo from a deeper area on the pitch.

I just had a feeling we’d win this one again. The team has really grown into itself.
The way the game started, was going to complain about Cremaschi. Guess cannot do that. Great sliding shot by him. OK game by the team. Lot of good shots. It's a win, move on. Next game will be difficult, maybe not a win. That's OK.
