Inter Miami impressed in their return to league play with a thumping 4-1 victory over CF Montreal.
After an expected defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup, the Herons had a week off to prepare for their next MLS match.
The Men in Pink showed out and then some, with Lionel Messi (showing, once again, he’s the greatest of all time), Tadeo Allende, and Telasco Segovia making their mark on the scoresheet.
With a tough July schedule that sees them take on Nashville, FC Cincinnati (twice), and then head straight into Leagues Cup play, the Herons needed a positive result to kick off a busy month.
Here are Player Ratings from Inter Miami’s win over Montreal.
*I’ll rate every player on a scale of 1 to 10, with 5-6 being average/below average. For the substitutes, I’ll judge accordingly.*
Goalkeeping
🧤 Oscar Ustari - 7.7: Came up huge with several saves when Montreal started to threaten offensively (seven, to be exact)
Defense:
💨 Jordi Alba - 7.6: Was solid once again. You can see that he wanted to get more involved in the attack, but Montreal’s setup kept him on his toes.
🦅 Maxi Falcon - 7.1: Had a couple of moments where he was physically outmatched by Montreal striker Prince Owusu but managed to grow into the game.
🦒 Tomas Avilés - 7.4: One of his better games in an Inter Miami jersey. Didn’t get a yellow card.
🎻 Marcelo Weigandt - 7.8: Again, another great game from the Boca loanee. Gave solid attacking support and got back well defensively.
Midfield:
🧉Tadeo Allende - 8.1: Got a goal and assist! Welcome back, early-season Allende! The Argentine is now up to seven goals on the year.
💪 Benjamin Cremaschi - 7.4: Was quite solid alongside Busquets in that midfield double pivot. His comfort on the ball has also improved - it’s noticeable! Ended the game completing 92% of his passes.
🧮 Sergio Busquets - 7.8: There were several moments where his touches led to direct chances on goal for Montreal, but still, his progressive passing is so crucial to Miami’s set-up.
💣 Telasco Segovia - 8: GOLAZOOOOOOOO
Attack:
🔫 Luis Suárez - 7.5: Had a couple of good looks on goal that should’ve led to a goal, but it really didn’t matter in the end due to reasons I will explain next…
🐐 Lionel Messi - 10:
Substitutes:
🇵🇾 David Martinez - 6.5: Did well enough to prevent Montreal from scoring, again.
🧙 Baltasar Rodriguez - 6.8: I really like his game and would love to see him deployed as the secondary attacking midfielder alongside Messi so the World Cup winner doesn’t have to keep dropping deep centrally.
🐞 Federico Redondo - 6.5: Didn’t do much to stand out, but he kept the ball moving!
🦌 Fafa Picault - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
⛵ Ryan Sailor - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
Coaching:
🔢 Javier Mascherano - 8: Good tactical set-up, great substitutes, and had solid game management. No glaring complaints here. The Herons look hungry, and this mentality will be so vital as the team heads into the second half of the year.

Great rebound after a good run in the cwc. Messi is infinity. ♾️
Well, Inter Miami equalled Real Madrid vs. PSG in the CWC. LOL!
