Inter Miami continued their solid run of form in MLS, winning yet again, this time against a tough Eastern Conference opponent, with a 2-1 victory over Nashville.
Heading into the match, the Herons were flying high after back-to-back wins against CF Montreal and the New England Revolution, and hoped to continue that momentum versus Nashville.
Not only did they have a pretty comfortable match against their 2023 Leagues Cup final opponent, but they managed the game to perfection, preventing Golden Boot co-leader Sam Surridge from getting on the scoresheet.
With a Wednesday night match-up against FC Cincinnati on the horizon, the Heron’s good form couldn’t have come at a better time.
Here are Player Ratings from Miami’s win over Nashville.
Goalkeeping:
🧤 Oscar Ustari - 8: The one thing I like about Ustari’s game is his ability to play with his feet. There were moments against Nashville where the Argentine played as a quasi-12th outfield player, helping to move the ball onto his center backs fluidly and without trouble.
Defense:
💨 Jordi Alba - 8: Got up the flank well, but there were moments where he did struggle to track back. Luckily, his teammates helped him out in that category.
🇵🇾 David Martinez - 8.2: Played a perfect (and his last…) game for Inter Miami. Martinez will now head back to River Plate after Javier Mascherano confirmed at training this morning that his loan wouldn’t be extended.
🦅 Maxi Falcon - 8.2: No glaring mistakes from him. Led the line well and made sure Nashville’s attack didn’t do any more damage.
🎻 Marcelo Weigandt - 8.3: One of his better games in an Inter Miami shirt. Was positionally aware and smart with when he made his runs forward.
Midfield:
🧉Tadeo Allende - 7.1: Not his best game. However, there were a few times when he was able to use his pace to get in behind Nashville’s defense and cause trouble. Adding on, he did well to get back defensively, too.
🧮 Sergio Busquets - 8.3: Controlled the tempo and kept the ball moving in midfield. Formed a stable midfield partnership with Cremaschi that is, pleasantly, working out well.
💪 Benjamin Cremaschi - 8: Mascherano’s switch to playing the youngster as a second “6” - more so an attacking 8, alongside Busquets, has been a revelation. He looks much more comfortable there than out wide.
💣 Telasco Segovia - 7.2: Another solid, but largely forgettable game from the Venezuelan international. It is a short game week, so he’ll get another opportunity to show out tomorrow against Cincinnati.
Attack:
🔫 Luis Suárez - 7: Didn’t get on the scoresheet, but his off-the-ball movement is integral in getting Messi open looks.
🐐 Lionel Messi - 9: Day ending in Y for him…
Substitutes:
🧙 Baltasar Rodriguez - 6.4: Decent cameo. I do like his game, a lot! Looking forward to seeing more from him.
🐞 Federico Redondo - 6: Did well to plug up the middle to stop Nashville from getting the equalizer.
🦒 Tomas Avilés - 6.3: Came on at a difficult time, but he did a great job at seeing out the three points for Miami.
⛵ Ryan Sailor - N/A: Didn’t play long enough to warrant a rating.
Coaching:
🔢 Javier Mascherano - 8: Well-coached game from Mascherano. Tactics were spot on, the gaps in midfield appear to have been fixed, and Messi is getting into consistent scoring positions again.
Thoughts on the match? How do you think they’ll do against Cincinnati tomorrow? Let me know in the comments.
too bad couldn't work some way for Martinez to finish season here
