Inter Miami’s nightmare run of five games in 15 days has finished after a string of results that saw them lose 3-0 to FC Cincinnati and win 5-1 against the New York Red Bulls.
After their historic Club World Cup run, the Herons had several games in hand behind the rest of the Eastern Conference (and still do!)
The climb up the table started on July 5th, where the Men in Pink took care of business against CF Montreal, comfortably beating them 4-1.
They then went on a run of two straight victories, dispatching the New England Revolution and Nashville SC in the process.
Now, with 12 points through five games during the span, Miami has a much-needed week of rest before taking on Cincinnati again on July 26th.
Here are Three Observations from their last two games.
Fatigue Certainly Played a Role in Cincinnati Loss
In Miami’s loss to Cincinnati last Wednesday, it was evident that the Herons were not up to the challenge of fighting for a fourth straight victory. By the time the clock hit 70 minutes, every player on the pitch looked visibly tired and unable to implement the high press that Javier Mascherano is fond of.
While the loss did put a dent in Miami’s winning streak, the Herons will look to get their “revenge” when the two sides play each other once again this weekend.
Sergio Busquets is Invaluable to Inter Miami
Every team needs a cerebral, almost Dr. Strange-esque, central midfielder that can create magic out of nothing.
You know? The ones that aren’t physically the quickest, nor are they the strongest, but what they lack in physical attributes is made up for with intelligence.
For Miami, that has been Sergio Busquets for the last two years. Now in his third year with the team, the World Cup winner shows no signs of drop-off with his passing range:
With Rodrigo De Paul set to sign with the team (maybe as soon as this week), Miami’s midfield added another wizard to its roster.
“He Can’t Keep Getting Away With This!!”
Oh, but he did!
Rodrigo De Paul Set to Sign Later This Week
After a few weeks of intense rumors and speculation, World Cup winner Rodrigo De Paul looks set to sign with Inter Miami.
The latest reporting from Fabrizio Romano states that Miami will have the deal done within the next few days.
Tom Bogert of GiveMeSport reported five days ago that De Paul will NOT come in as a Designated Player, but on loan until the end of 2025.
Only a matter of time, now…
Thoughts on Miami’s current run of form? How do you think De Paul will fit into the team?
Let me know in the comments!
De Paul in the Midfield. That's an improvement. Send Redondo back to Argentina.
