I’d have graded the players a point or point-and-a-half lower across the board, Alex, I must be more cynical than you 🙂. BUT, I’ve resigned myself to inconsistent performances as long as we’re in multiple competitions. Imagine if Tata could put his best lineup on the pitch every match and they could develop real chemistry!

Like James said, with the injuries and international duty that may not happen until later in the season.

seems with all the injuries this may never happen

It was great to see the goat back. We still have a lot of injuries so the tie is disappointing but not disastrous. I feel like there have been a lot of draws this season with teams that were on fire last year. So I’m still hopeful. It’s early in the season.

I was discussing this with a friends the other day. When the Sounders went on their Champions League (Cup) run, they sacrificed their MLS form and ended up finishing 11th in the West. If Miami want to win the tournament, they may have to prioritize one trophy over another.

Up a goal, Afonso goes down why not sub in Friere instead of Alba? Tata tactics were terrible. I didn't like Borgelin out of position either. So glad Negri is back, missed him.

Freire was coming back from injury and will start vs Monterrey. No long risking him when there's a more important game around.

When Borgelin got central i see old school CF and impressed with work rate throughout imo Why when up a goal late are outside backs way up the field? ugh

We saw Tata visibly try to tell Negri to stop overlapping so high, so it's not like he wanted the full backs to play high. The players were seeing if they could get a third goal.

i thought last season Negri was much more interested in going forward than defending seemed the new guy caught that bug too we got some budget Sergino Dests maybe

Maybe the most important question is did you see Messi's bodyguard this game? security getting scorched by little kids 2 weeks in a row trying to take heat off teams defense i guess

I didn't 😭😭 I'm shocked those kids managed to get on the field haha

Your ratings are off and far too generous. The only players who did well were Messi and Afonso, the rest of the team sucked. Sailor's mistake that resulted in a penalty score was unforgivable, horrendous, stupid beyond belief. People gotta quit making excuses for lack of execution on this team. Somebody with influence needs to start raising hell in the Miami locker room.

I actually think they did better than most of people credit them for. I tend to rate the players off the little things they did right or wrong that most people don't notice in addition to their overall performance.

For example Sailor, penalty aside, has significantly improved compared to his performances early in the season. If I rated his ENTIRE game off of one silly mistake then every player would be getting under fives. Football is a game that flows. A player may play poorly for the first 15, then get their act together for the rest of the match. Additionally, I don't think the average fan understands that the season is long and catastrophizing every detail results in analysis being skewed.

And to respond to your last statement, of course there's leaders in the lockeroom (Messi, Gressel, Callendar, etc.) The team speaks about it all the time, lol. Just because one result didn't end the way one wanted doesn't subtract from that.

It's not just 1 result. This has been a worsening pattern since last year after the League's Cup. InterMiami has been underperforming since then. One could make excuses back then, now it's just laziness, bad coaching and American and MLS junk soccer. Really unacceptable the little progress that players on this team have made other than the former Barcelona players, and even Busquets has gotten unacceptably lazy and slow.

I wouldn't call sitting 3rd in the Eastern Conference under performing, lol

InterMiami has LOST 2 games, TIED 3, and won 3. Percentage wise given the players they have that is terrible performance. All of the rest of the MLS SUCKS save for maybe 1 or 2 teams. It's not saying much that Miami is currently 3rd in 1 conference of the MLS. 10th place isn't that much of a difference from Miami.
