I think these are fair ratings. One thing I would like to see going forward is for players other than Busquets or Alba to make forward passes especially between two opposition players. I feel like they are often scared they might not be able to complete the pass and they opt for the safer backward pass, which kills the rhythm and slows the attack. This was something Farias was willing to do but unfortunately, he is no longer available.

That being said regarding his replacement, I saw your tweet about the rules that they can get a player as long as he has the same salary or less as Farias. But since he was a young DP, and he was bought for 5 million I believe (I could be wrong), does the purchase also have to be for 5 mil or less, or can they spend more money for the purchase as long as the salary is the same? These rules seem to be very confusing. Thanks!

Hey Bassam! Thank you for reading! And I agree. I think they take the caution approach mainly because they would rather that over misplacing a pass, and getting exposed on the counter. I think that'll fade as the season progresses. As far as a Facu replacement: As long as a player has the same or under the Salary Budget Charge (for Facu it's $200,000 cause he's a U22 DP) they can add a replacement player. I don't think transfer fees play into that!

So theoretically, they can drop a 25 million transfer fee on any young talent that is willing to play with Messi and friends for a low salary? Thanks.

25 Million? No. That would put him into the DP territory.

I see, so what's the max they can spend on a transfer fee? I thought the new player would also have a young DP designation because Farias is sidelined for the season. Is it just that they can spend what they have left available in their GAM, TAM etc...? Thanks!

A player that comes in at $25 million would presumably have a Salary that puts him in the DP range. For Facu's replacement, they'll have to hit the Budget Charge of under $200,000 cause he's a U22 player. For a Senior DP it's $651,250. So whoever comes in has hit the aforementioned 200,000 Budget Charge.

Totally agree. This is what the preseason is for. I’d much rather they stay healthy and work out the kinks than come out guns blazing and risk injury. Thanks for the always fair and balanced coverage, Alex!

Thanks for reading, Gina! I know fans will be upset, but you see that foundation! I'm excited to watch them as preseason progresses.
