Great game. Messi and Busi are great as always. We needed this one too. Hope Diego is okay.

Good game. I hope Gomez isn't out for too long. That being said, I still see a lot of sloppy passing out of the back. They need to work on their passing during these week-long breaks between games.

I concur! I think they've found a nice rhythm to their attack, however!

Gressel had another terrible game again. Something I have noticed about Gressel is that he repeatedly avoids passing to Weigandt even when it is the best available pass for Gressel. It happens so often that it becomes counterproductive for the attack and it stands out. I have rarely seen that from a professional player. One of the coaches needs to call Gressel out on that. He should also not be a starter. Cremaschi should have gotten more time in this game. Lastly, that knee score by Negri for Nashville was pathetic. Negri was sloppy throughout, he definitely did not rate a 7.5.

Gressel was fine in this game until ran out of legs he rotated to cover for Weigant multiple times very good that we may have that figured out i noticed 1 time he didn't play a ball up the line to Wig maybe the coach wants to stop the outside backs going forward too much?

No, it's not just been one time. It's been happening many times for many games now. Pretty much every game Weigandt has been in. Gressel is willfully not passing to Weigandt, even when there have been great opportunities. It's clear that Gressel has some sort of personal problem with Weigandt, and there should be no reason for that. Also Gressel's passes from the wings into the forwards in the center are almost always not accurate to a particular striker, it's like he thinks if he just kicks it into the center that that might somehow accomplish something. Gressel has had only a few assists on this team, mostly his passes are inaccurate. Cremaschi's ball control and choices have been much better than Gressel's.

Also Callendar is still not effectively starting the Miami possessions well. When he throws it it's either not far enough, or not fast enough, or not to the most open player to move the ball forward. When he kicks the ball it's usually either too far or not to an open man. It is clear that Callendar is trying to improve on this, but both his throwing and kicking needs to get smarter and more accurate. Some good coach recently said, all great goalkeepers need to think like a striker in clearing the ball.

Both the Monterrey and Tigres goalkeepers were great at clearing the ball and they both think like strikers. Same with European goalkeepers. Big part of the reason why Miami often takes so long to get the ball out of the first third and into the opposition's and final third is because Callendar is doing a terrible job of starting the possessions almost all of the time.

i think a reason keeper is slow to distribute is letting teammates try to sneak some rest and we old and slow in some areas

Expand full comment

The could be a good reason, but it's not just that he is slow. He's slow when he needs to be fast, he's fast when he needs to be slow, he's short when he needs to be accurately long, and he's long and inaccurate when he needs to be short. Callender just has not been adequately trained on the importance and finer details of starting possessions. As a result the team works too much of it's time in the wrong part of the field trying to overcome that. It's a key reason why this team underperforms, not the only one.

His footwork/passing needs to improve i would agree. Long balls to Suarez may be a need to be rethought but at least it not long high punts to Josef Martinez from last season that drove me cray. Also was far better than the guy Nashville had in goal in first half very rare to see keeper get subbed off at the break

Agree on all that.
